About this training

De‑escalation training under Tennessee’s Dallas Law teaches security guards how to safely and effectively manage conflict without resorting to force.

This course focuses on recognizing early warning signs of aggression, understanding human behavior under stress, and using communication skills to calm tense situations.

Students learn how to maintain professional presence, control their own emotions, and apply verbal and non‑verbal techniques that reduce hostility and prevent violence.

The training emphasizes creating distance, using time as a tool, and applying structured decision‑making to avoid unnecessary physical confrontations.

Guards are taught how to assess threats, set boundaries, and redirect behavior while protecting themselves, the public, and their employer.

Dallas Law requires security personnel to prioritize safety, minimize harm, and use force only when absolutely necessary.

This course prepares guards to respond confidently, ethically, and legally in real‑world situations where de‑escalation is the safest and most effective option.

Is De‑escalation Training Required if You Work Around Alcohol? (Dallas Law – Tennessee)

Yes.

Under Tennessee’s Dallas Law, any security guard who works in a place where alcohol is served, sold, or consumed must complete state‑approved De‑escalation and Safe Restraint Training, even if they are unarmed.

This includes locations such as:

• Bars

• Nightclubs

• Restaurants

• Concert venues

• Festivals

• Sports arenas

• Any event or business with alcohol on the premises

If alcohol is present, Dallas Law applies.

If you work security anywhere alcohol is served or consumed, Tennessee requires you to complete Dallas Law training. This includes de‑escalation, safe restraint, and duty‑to‑intervene training. You cannot work in these environments without it.ā€

⭐ Why the Requirement Exists

Alcohol increases:

• Aggression

• Impaired judgment

• Emotional volatility

Because of this, Tennessee law requires guards to be trained to:

• Calm situations before they turn violent

• Use communication instead of force

• Protect the public and themselves

• Apply safe restraint only when absolutely necessary
